Foodtrotter has been writing articles consistently for nearly two months now, but we haven’t really told you what food trotting is. Food Trotting is the ultimate foodie adventure. It is not about having an awesome meal here or there, but it is taking part in a lifestyle where food actively shapes aspects of your life. In fact, you’re probably a food trotter already but just don’t know it.
Here are five telltale signs that you are a food trotter:
1) You plan vacations around foods you want to eat and/or try
You and your significant other are going to Vancouver because you both want to eat the freshest seafood the ocean can offer, see the fish captains, sample a japadog, taste test the original Guu (a Japanese Izakaya), shop the Granville Island market, attempt crabbing, and discover hidden gems along the way. Of course, you’ll also enjoy some of the great outdoors that the city has to offer…
2) When you’re not on vacation eating, you are at home thinking about where you could be eating
You’re sitting around at home or at the office, and suddenly you’re thinking about how delicious it would be to eat at a hawker stand (or rather, centre!) in Singapore, or how deeply satisfying a warm lobster roll would be in Nova Scotia, or how exciting it would be to try Graham Elliot‘s new “bistronomic” restaurant in Chicago! Does this sound familiar?
3) The only reason why you read the ‘Life’ or ‘Lifestyle’ section of the newspaper is because of the food & travel articles
Is there any other reason to read that section?
4) You like to cook sometimes, but usually it’s because you’re trying to be fiscally responsible by quelling your desires of taking off immediately to eat something you just read or heard about
You recently wined and dined your significant other with some homemade thin-crust pizza, trofie di camogli, and panna cotta , not because you wanted to get laid (ok, partially), but mostly because you can’t (for some reason or other) go to Italy and EAT!
5) You collect articles, web links, books, magazines, etc of all the food places you want to eat
For example, this very morning, you bookmarked an article about Red’s Lobster Shack in Maine, followed @humphryslocombe on twitter, and decided to subscribe to Food & Wine magazine.
Friend… if you exhibit any or all of these signs, you are a Food Trotter!
